Research Experience
Social Data MiningResearch Topic: Negativity Analysis of Social Media
In this work, we will focus on the negative impacts of social media, specially Facebook. Because of large number of Facebook users, it is crucial to figure out how facebook is influencing every day life of adolescents. Team members:
- Md. Tanvir Alam Anik
- Saif Ahmed
- Dr. Mohammed Eunus Ali (Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology)
- Jalal U. Mahmud (Researcher Staff Member, IBM)
Research Topic: SNS search in developing countries
This research signifies the impact of SNS search in developed and developing regions. With necessary statistics and experimental data, we emphasized the difference among them. We have got a paper accepted in CSCW '13 Workshop and one conference paper accepted in CICSyN '13. Another paper based on this topic coupled with necessary statistical evidence has been accepted in ASONAM '13. Team members:

Research Topic: Evolutionary Programming for function optimization
My undergraduate thesis topic is Function Optimization by Evolutionary Programming. In this research, we have developed evolutionary programming algorithms to achieve reliable optimization performance. Some full papers as well as short papers have been accepted in prominent conferences. My mentor and undergraduate theses supervisor: Dr. Md. Monirul Islam to whom I will be very thankful for his support. We are preparing a Journal on this topic to be submitted on IEEE Transaction on Evolutionary Computation within August, 2013. Team members:

Research Topic: Bangla Hand-writing Recognition
We were assigned a term project in our Pattern Recognition Course to develop an algorithm that can recognize hand-written Bangla Characters. There has been a significant amount of research on this topic. We modified existing hand-written Bangla Character recognition algorithms in Matlab to improve performance. Machine Learning Techniques were used to develop a training set and a test set from a set of hand-written Bangla Paragraphs. This work was highly evaluated in the entire term project submissions.
